The Macardles Brewery Historical Society hosted a special reunion event this week, bringing together around 50 former brewery workers and their families to celebrate the heritage and enduring legacy of the iconic Dundalk brewery. One of the highlights of the evening was the recreation of a well-known 1995 photograph taken inside the original brewery bar, restored with the very same
people in the very same seats — a powerful symbol of continuity, friendship and community pride.

The original brewery bar itself was crafted by Val Wynne and Pat Dawe and members of both families attended the reunion to honour their contribution to Macardles history. Attendees travelled from as far as the USA and Scotland to be part of the occasion, demonstrating the deep emotional connection the Macardles story still holds for former staff and their families. Speaking at the event, Jason McGee, organiser and founder of Macardles.ie, said:

“This reunion wasn’t just about looking back — it was about celebrating the people who made Macardles what it was. To see former colleagues sharing memories, to welcome families of the original bar’s craftsmen and to have people travel from abroad to be here… it shows how strong the Macardles spirit remains. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible.”

The event extended special thanks to Anthony and Robert (Irish Whiskey Auctions) Paul McCullins, Micheal Mackin, Mark Gogarty and all volunteers and supporters who contributed to the success of the evening.
